Dry cleaning is commonly the method used in removing soot and the use of a dry chemical sponge is used in this process. The sponge is 100% natural rubber and is non-abrasive. 

Another method is Wet cleaning which uses a specialized solution to remove the soot. This method should be used with caution on non-porous surfaces.

If soot damage is untreated or not properly removed, tiny particles of the soot can be inhaled causing breathing issues such as asthma, bronchitis and other illness that could keep you from doing your daily routine activities.
